The challenge

An early bet on LoRaWAN that had to pay off long-term.

Alstahaug took an early position on LoRaWAN water metering at a time when very few Norwegian municipalities had committed to the technology at scale. The geography alone - coastal, dispersed, mixed rural and urban - rules out one-size-fits-all metering. A solution that worked in year one needed to keep working in years five and ten, with the same network, the same operations team and an expanding meter base.

The brief: pick precision meters that hold up at low flow rates typical of single-family households, sit them on a network that covers both Sandnessjøen and rural surroundings, and give the municipality a clear view of every connected device and every coverage gap.

What we built

Precision meters on a network that keeps growing.

Honeywell V200 precision piston meters provide the low-flow accuracy single-family households need. LoRaWAN handles the radio - long range, low power, gateway placement that adapts as coverage expands. Divako handles everything between: provisioning, payload parsing, validation, alarms, exports.

The municipality's own team operates the network. RSSI, packet loss and coverage gaps surface as platform alerts, not as field complaints. New installs go onto the same pipeline as the originals; no parallel system to maintain.
