Every water network loses water – the question is how much, and where. With the EU's Drinking Water Directive turning leakage into a reportable number, the water balance is moving from an annual estimate to an operational tool.

Norway's energy capital signs a framework agreement for remote-read water metering on Divako – choosing an open, vendor-neutral platform that keeps data ownership and hardware choice in the municipality's hands. Phase one swaps ~3,000 mechanical meters and adds 2,300 smart units, with room to scale past 50,000 homes.

Two neighbouring Innlandet municipalities unite on one platform. Phase one swaps roughly 25,000 mechanical meters for Apator ultrasonic remote-read units – with leak, backflow, tamper and frost alerts feeding straight into billing for 69,000+ residents.

An operation running on the Divako platform was named one of three finalists for Norges smarteste industribedrift 2026 – Norway's Smartest Industrial Company – alongside Elkem and Norsk Kylling.

Most water leaves the pipe long before it shows up on a bill. Zone-level metering breaks a network into measurable districts so the first signs of loss are visible in days, not quarters.
